The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest particular rulings from the chair umpire, mirroring the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine specific decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of challenges a player can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
